Well, the rich get richer because they keep doing the things that made them rich in the first place. The poor..., well...
Another example of the price we all pay for protectionist policies is dairy products. As the owner of a certain famous coffee shop, we must buy our dairy products from Canadian sources only. Why?
Dairy prices are set by marketing boards and they increase every year, often in excess of inflation. No business should have the right to guranteed revenue increases, when their customers have no other option (by law only) but to buy from them.
I have often heard this arrangement helps keep Quebec happy, like the Young Offenders Act, but for cows.
