"I only maligned as c*nts those females in the news or female bloggers who were c*nts. In short, I was actually fairly selective and focused with that insult, bestowing it only on those who so richly deserved it."
Oh, you feminist, you...
Girl on the Right, responds:
[...]
"Does it bug me, personally? No, not really. I find it sad, but I have a "that's just the way it is" attitude about it. When a male blogger/reader threatens a female blogger, he does it in a personal - often vulgar - way. When he threatens a male (if he has the balls to do so at all), he will usually do it by threatening his family, specifically his children. People who make internet threats are cowardly. They hide behind pseudonyms, don't disclose email address or use fake ones, have cloaked IPs... they are pussies. Believe me, if they show up at your door and are greeted by your handgun, you'll be scrubbing urine stains out of your Welcome mat.
Basically, we can't let it get to us. Women have been silenced by men before, and we've ceased to allow it. We shouldn't pay it any mind on the internet. There's room for everyone here."
[...]
It's ironic, how someone like Kate McMillan -- who if you ask me is almost the poster child for everything the feminist movement in the 1960's and 70's fought for -- is now attacked with derogatory words like "c*nt" from people who label themselves social progressives.
Let's do the run down shall we?
- Independent Woman? Check.
- Self-sufficient? Check.
- Self-esteem? Check.
- Influential? Check.
Apparently, we missed the final differentiating factor:
- Right-leaning? C*nt!
-
UPDATE: Speaking of feminists.

CC isn't a liberal and Kate isn't influential.
Nor is he legitimately progressive. Nor, Robert, are you.
You're right, he isn't a liberal. Nobody in the Liberal Party is a liberal. The NDP, the Liberals, you, CC, Kinsella, are all illiberal.
From Wikipedia: "Liberalism refers to a broad array of related ideas and theories of government that consider individual liberty to be the most important political goal.[1] Liberalism has its roots in the Western Age of Enlightenment."
The strong support for thought police, regulation, wealth redistribution, group rights, etc.. all fit quite clearly outside the purview of that definition. So you'll get no argument from me.
"Liberalism refers to a broad array of related ideas and theories of government that consider individual liberty to be the most important political goal."
Hey, I'm a liberal and didn't even know it.
So, after an absence, a refreshed Mike Brock has come back to write posts Richard Evans wrote years ago, which he had basically just copied from Michelle Malkin anyway?
Tragic. Simply tragic.
The c*nt controversy has been going on for a while. I find it hilarious now.
Lucky you Mike! Robert McClelland & Ti-Guy stopped humping each others legs long enough to leave their two cents worth.
Not Tired-Guy again. Where's the weed whacker?
Better watch out, Frank. Mike is on a politically correct crusade and he might like your homophobic comment.
What's so homophobic about overvaluating yours and Ti-Guys opinions Robert?
Oh the incivility! Oh no!
Calling someone a cunt does not make someone a misogynist.
However, implying that all Aboriginal males do for most of the year is smoke drink and fuck their daughters makes one a racist.
Who am I going to side with? A racist hags like Right Girl and KKKate or people who actually care about other people? I'm going to go for the latter.
Can. Cyn again hmm? Has anyone "outed" this piece of shit yet?
Brock and Kate are working on it, I'm sure.
I've no doubt this is true, but it embarasses me a little to realize why. Once upon a time I was young and left, and enjoyed inflicting my opinions on people with as much profanity as possible. And why not? I knew everything, and there was no question i was doing the world a huge favour by bestowing the truth upon them. If the f***ing truth hurt, well, tough shi*t! After all, every conservative was a bigot and a racist and a sexist and a capitalist pig, so why would I worry about their reaction?
Eventually, most people grow up.
Once upon a time feminism was about freedom. To the dismay of far-left feminists, however, some women took this to mean the freedom to support any politics they wished, including (wait for it) conservativism.
This was not in the agenda. Those liberated by feminism were supposed to pledge undying loyalty to the cause no matter where it lead. The truly liberated, however, are never so obliging. These far-left feminists were quick to call such women traitors, but in fact many of these women had learned the lessons of feminism too well. They were not about to have their politics dictated to them by anyone.
Does, Canadian Cynic make a point of targeting female Conservative bloggers? I used to allow links, but got tired of him linking to my blog because of the foul language. As a matter of fact, I had to remove Bigcitylibs posts because even after I politely asked him/her to stop swearing on my blog, he/she continued to do it. Very mature.
You can always tell the lefty poster's, who are mostly anonymous, because they just have to swear or attack a blogger personally. They also come out most often on a post about women's issues. If you really want to get them going, post about strong Conservative women, SOWS, or abortion. They really crawl out of their caves then.
Interesting how opposition MP's targeted Rona, Oda, and any other female Cabinet Minister, then they howl about how more females need to run for office, not likely.

Paladeia:
Really? Let's turn it around. Suppose a conservative blogger got into the habit of regularly referring to those progressive women bloggers he disagreed with (i.e., almost all of them) as cunts.
Would he be accused of misogyny? God yes. He would quickly be the poster boy for misogyny.
Some people think that progressives can not be racist or fascist or misogynist or intolerant cause, well, they're progressives. Only conservatives can be such things.
Horseshit.
Actually, some people grow up and don't become cynical like you Clancy Six. I'd like to think that there are still some of us left. The insinuation that those of us on the left are merely immature is an ad hominem attack.
As for words like "cunt", "bitch", "whore", "slut" etc, many feminists have reclaimed these words and use them in empowering ways. Those women who use these words like most people do however, are merely reinforcing patriarchy by asserting that women cannot be strong, independent, and sexually liberated. These women are not feminists in my mind.
While I do not agree with most of what Kate says, as a feminist I have to respect her for being as independent and intelligent as she is. I do however find it problematic that she often lumps all feminists together. Not all feminists are socialists; a lot of us are, but many of us are right-leaning.

RM:
Works better my way. I've never associated conservatism that strongly with freedom except with regards to "libertarian conservatism", a fairly recent development historically speaking.

"Paladiea says... Calling someone a cunt does not make someone a misogynist."
Paladiea, lemme see if I understand.... you once said McClelland was beyond
the pale for his words... "Robert, you refuse to apologize, and I’m sorry but
I can’t continue to defend you. Consider this my resignation."
But you'll defend this guy?
How exactly does that work?

Joke of the day: JC the Liberal Court Jester decides to open his own Law Office, sees profitable career with Liberal clients.
Really? Let's turn it around. Suppose a conservative blogger got into the habit of regularly referring to those progressive women bloggers he disagreed with (i.e., almost all of them) as cunts.
Context, it depends on whether he/she advocates for equity. See, unlike those of you on the right, it's their underlying intent that's more important to us than their words. And vice versa.
Paladiea How do you know what anyone other than you intends about anything. J.Stalin intended to bring equallity to mankind. I say he was a mass murdering thug. Intention means far less than results. As the old proverb states "The road to hell is paved with good intentions".
Perhaps but in the blogosphere, we don't really have any actions to go on.
What the hell's going on here? Did Canadian Cynic's Clown College dismiss class or something?
"Calling someone a cunt does not make someone a misogynist."
Uh, yes it does make someone a misogynist. This shouldn't even have to be explained.
Behold the Modern Liberal in action, sadly the Classical Liberals now vote for the cons because of MEN like that pig CC. He represents what the Liberal Party of Canada really stand for:
Subjugation and demoralizing women, in the name of progression, Multicult and diversity and eqaulity of "Other Cultures". Vote Liberal and women's rights are degraded back two decades, are ya proud Liberals? We are disposable to get elected? Still beaming? Child brides on your watch, honour killings in the name of culture, sexual mutilation in the name of "Multi Cult" the list is endless.
As a female I want to thank the Liberals and NDP for negating my right to equality to pander to "Other Cultures" you assumed (make an ass of one's self) Conservative Females would lay down and be submissive like your party members to get elected. Not working so well is it leftards?
Actually I don't think that calling each other names means anything other than the name caller has a real lack of imagination and maybe intellegence. Trying to diminish another person by refering to them by their genitalia in the vulgar form is common amongst the immature and the intellectually challenged. However to make the leap that calling someone a name ethnic or refering to one's genetailia as a form of hatred is how we got the HRCs and section 13.1.
"Context, it depends on whether he/she advocates for equity. See, unlike those of you on the right, it's their underlying intent that's more important to us than their words. And vice versa."
You are a liar, Paladiea. A liar and an intellectual coward. You read whatever intent you want to into a statement, in order to justify liberal hatred, or condemn conservative hatred. You are a partisan hack, unable to form an independent thought of your own.
You and everybody else reading this are perfectly well aware of what would happen to any right-wing blogger or commentator who referred to a woman -- or anybody else -- as a cunt. If it makes you feel grown-up to pretend otherwise, if you think your garbage about pretending to divine the speaker's intent is anything but pathetic horseshit, go right ahead; but you are not fooling anybody. You are a liar.
"The liberal's two most feared enemies are history and reason." -- Mark Steyn
"CC isn't a liberal and Kate isn't influential."
A hell of a lot more influential than you and your blog Robert. All you do is link whore on conservative blogs and add absolutely no value to the game. You are pathetic and so is the party you promote. It wasn't a bad party many years ago but has become a total joke and some of my friends support it...god knows why?? I guess they don't have a political clue.
Joe, you are mistaken. The language that people choose to use means everything. I can't say "oh I used the N word, but that doesn't make me racist". It does make me a racist because if I used that word I obviously don't understand what it means to use a word like that. It means that I disregard the hurt that that word causes an entire group of people. All of the history behind the word is forgotten and other peoples' pain becomes some sort of joke. Similarly, when it comes to words like "bitch" and "cunt", one may argue "well, that is the same thing as calling a man an 'asshole' or a 'dick'". While I agree that those are not nice words to use in reference to someone, the latter are not the same in degree to the former. They are not the same because they do not have the same history. Men have not been oppressed by women throughout history, but women have been oppressed by men. Strong women who have opinions and are not afraid to voice them are often called bitches and cunts. Women who have their own sexuality and aren't afraid to express it are called sluts. What are strong opinionated men called? Assertive and confident. What are sexually liberated men called? Well, they aren't called anything because they are seen as the "norm". They are merely how men are, should be, and will always be.
Joe, I am on your side of the freedom of speech debate, but we must not forget that just because we have a right to say something does not mean that we should say anything and everything. We all must critically analyze how we think (our white/male/heterosexual/class privilege) and how we each contribute to the maintenance of oppression. This has nothing to do with guilt. Very few people consciously oppress others; however, our actions and the language we use often contributes to this hegemony and to common sense notions of gender, race, class, and sexual orientation.
Sarah Landau
No consequences. That's why. If Canadian Cynic / Red Tory / any other progressive arsehole uses that word with women present in the real world he gets embarrassed, at the least. In some places, like where I am, he'd get his arse kicked pretty quick. A consequence. There ain't no consequence to living virtually, writing vogon poetry whilst hiding behind a keyboard and calling those that disagree with your dreck vile names.
And to pick on girls is well, you know.
----writing vogon poetry
I can see that :)
Sorry riot grrrl, I completely disagree with you. Using the words mean nothing unless the use of the word is supposed to mean something. I grew up in an ethnically diverse community and we all called each other by what would now be considered an ethnic slur. My last name is German in orgin and as a consequence I was called a Kraut. I had two good friends throughout high school, one was of English extract and was called Limey, the other was from China and was called Chink. We remain friends to this day and will often call each other by our old nicknames.
One day a group of us were walking to school and met up with a student several years older than us. His nickname was Cow. We all greeted him using his nickname and he acknowledged us as well. A few steps behind us was a young teacher who called us and proceeded to lecture us on respecting other students and asked the question what would we feel like if we were called Cow. One of my clasemates piped up and said not much because everyone calls me Cow.
While I agree with your point about lefties like cc not having to face any consequences I would still prefer they remain anonymous because it limits them and their audiences to their septic tank blogs. That and the fact I care more about the steam on my dogs turd than I do about them.
You and everybody else reading this are perfectly well aware of what would happen to any right-wing blogger or commentator who referred to a woman -- or anybody else -- as a cunt. Not that anyone who quotes Mark Steyn without irony deserves a response but dude, right wingers call for freaking genocide on a daily basis, and you think us progressives will get worked up over someone calling someone else a cunt? Get over yourself.
Uh, yes it does make someone a misogynist. This shouldn't even have to be explained.
If a woman calls another woman a cunt in jest does that make her a self loathing female? Unlikely. Sorry, the world is not black and white.
